ABOUT PRESSURE COOKER ALOO MATAR RECIPE

With fresh green peas hitting the market during winters, there is nothing better than a large bowl of hot, spicy aloo-matar/potato and peas curry to enjoy with any Indian flat bread like rotis, parathas etc. or even with some hot jeera rice or pulav. Made in a pressure cooker, having it on the table is just a few minutes away!

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup fresh green peas, wash and drain (you can use frozen peas too)
  2. 2 medium potatoes, washed, peeled and diced
  3. ½ tsp mustard seeds
  4. Few curry leaves
  5. ¼ tsp hing/asafetida powder
  6. ½ tsp urad dal/split lentils
  7. 1 small tomato, chopped
  8. 1 small onion, chopped
  9. ¼ tsp haldi/turmeric powder
  10. ½ tsp red chilli powder
  11. ½ tsp garam masala powder
  12. ½ tsp salt or to taste
  13. 2 to 3 teaspoons oil
  14. Freshly chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Heat a pressure pan and add oil. Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. As soon as the seeds splutter, stir in curry leaves, hing and urad dal. Saute on medium heat for a few seconds.
  2. Now, start layering the rest of the ingredients. First layer the onions.then tomatoes and spice powders (red chilli, garam masala and haldi).
  3. Top with chopped potatoes and green peas. Add salt to taste.
  4. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of water and mix well.
  5. Pressure cook on high for 3 whistles. Let the pressure drop naturally and then open.
  6. Mix well and adjust seasonings. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot, spicy, lip-smacking, jhatpat, easy, one-pot, pressure cooker aloo matar with any chapati, roti, naan or even bread. I love to eat this with homemade pulav or jeera rice! Enjoy!
