About Green Peas Daal Recipe

A delicious winter daal made of fresh green peas and flavourful spices. My Mom special recipe which I love to cook and can just relish it everyday.

Green Peas Daal

Ingredients to make Green Peas Daal

  • Fresh green peas 3 cup
  • mustard Oil 1/2 cup
  • onion 2
  • tomato 1
  • garlic ginger paste 1tbsp
  • red chilli powder 1tsp
  • haldi powder 1tsp
  • Dhani powder 2 tsp
  • salt 1.5 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1tsp
  • sugar 1 tsp
  • potato 3
  • coriander leaves chopped 2tbsp
  • Soya leaves chopped 2tbsp
  • Baghar
  • Desi ghee 3 tbsp
  • onion 1 finely cut
  • Roasted cumin powder 1tsp

How to make Green Peas Daal

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker
  2. When it starts to smoke , cool the oil a little and add thickly sliced onions
  3. When slightly golden add peas and leave 1/2 cup aside for later use
  4. After stirring the peas on high heat for few minutes add tomatoes, ginger garlic paste ,green chillies and stir
  5. Add all the dry spices haldi, red chilli powder, Dhani powder, Garam masala powder, salt, sugar and stir
  6. Add 1 cup water and cook for 2 whistle. Immediately after few minutes open the cooker so it does not discolour the peas
  7. When cool grind in a mixi like a smooth batter
  8. Peel and cut potatoes into big chunk and soak in water with the left peas
  9. Add water at least a litre to thin the daal as it will be very thick
  10. Add peeled and cut potatoes and left green peas in daal and cook covered for few minutes till potatoes are soft
  11. Add chopped coriander leaves and soya leaves and cook for 5 minutes
  12. For baghar Heat desi ghee and add chopped onions
  13. Cook till golden and pour on daal and add roasted cumin powder
  14. Serve hot with plain boiled rice

My Tip:

Use only freshly peeled green peas for making daal
