ABOUT Chukke Ki Bhaaji Gosht (Green sorrel leaves mutton curry) RECIPE

Chukke Ki Bhaaji as called in Hyderabad is a curry made with green sorrel leaves and mutton with tomatoes and bengal gram. Though bengal gram is optional, it can be added to enhance the flavour. As known to everyone, Winter is a Season full of fresh green leafy vegetables and hence it's a perfect time to make this special dish and relish it. Happy Cooking Everyone!

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Green sorrel leaves 7-8 cups
  2. Tomatoes chopped 4
  3. Ginger garlic paste 1 1/2 tbsp
  4. Onions chopped 2
  5. Mutton 1/2 a kg
  6. Oil 1/4 cup
  7. Turmeric 1 tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  10. Green chillies finely chopped 2
  11. Coriander leaves chopped 1/4 cup
  12. Bengal gram 1/4 cup (soaked for 2-3 hours)

Instructions

  1. Wash and roughly chop the leaves.
  2. In a pressure cooker, saute onions with ginger garlic paste and the rest of the spices.
  3. Add mutton pieces to it. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes and then add juicy and ripe tomatoes.
  4. Cover and cook for 5 minutes and then close the lid. Add little water and salt too. Pressure cook until the mutton gets done.
  5. Open the lid and add the chopped green sorrel leaves and cook on a high heat.
  6. It gets done in no time at all. Saute until oil starts leaving the sides.
  7. If bengal gram is used, add it along with the leaves.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with khatti daal or tamatar ka kat.
