ABOUT Jeera rice and dal tadka RECIPE

It is a perfect comfort food when you are so lazy or have no time to cook anything else. As there is no requirement of any vegetables make it so comfort when there is unavailability of veggies.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. For jeera rice:
  2. Rice-1 cup
  3. Salt as per taste
  4. Ghee-2 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds-2 tsp
  6. Chopped coriander leaves -2 tsp
  7. For dal tadka:
  8. Toor dal-1/2 cup
  9. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. Ghee-3 tsp
  12. Some curry leaves
  13. Onion -1 large chopped
  14. Ginger, garlic green chilli paste -1/2 tsp
  15. Tomato -1 medium size chopped
  16. A pinch of asafoetida
  17. Dhania powder-1/2 tsp
  18. Red chilli powder-1/2 tsp
  19. Garam masala powder-1/2 tsp
  20. Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
  21. Dry red chilli -2-3
  22. Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. For jeera rice: First of all cook the rice with enough amount of water and little bit of salt and then strain all the water from it.
  2. Heat a non stick pan and put ghee in it and then add the cumin seeds in it and saute for few seconds.
  3. Then add the cooked rice in it along with chopped coriander leaves and salt and sprinkle some water , mix it well and cover the lid and cook for 3-4 minutes in low flame.
  4. A nice aroma will come and the jeers rice is now ready.
  5. Now for dal tadka: Boil the toor dal with water, turmeric powder,salt in a pressure cooker till 3-4 whistle.
  6. Heat a pan put half of the ghee and then add the mustard seeds and when they crackle then add the chopped onion, ginger garlic green chilli paste and cook till the raw smell of garlic has gone and the onion becomes golden brown in colour.
  7. Then add the chopped tomato in it along with chilli powder, thanks powder, Garam masala powder and when they cook completely then add the boiled dal in it.
  8. Then for tampering in a ladle put ghee in it and then add the cumin seeds, curry leaves ,red chilli and red chilli powder( for colour) and saute it for 10 -20 seconds and then add it to the cooked dal and mix it well.
  9. If you want you may add some chopped coriander leaves in it.
  10. Now your dal tadka is ready.
  11. Serve hot with the jeera rice.
