ABOUT Chicken Kizhi Biryani RECIPE

Though I am Bengali but I and my whole family like this one pot meal , Chicken Kizhi biryani . The unique flavour of banana leaf and pineapple enhance the the taste and make it different from other biryani.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 and 1/2 cup basmati rice
  2. 600 grams chicken
  3. 1 onion slices
  4. 4 garlic pods
  5. 1 small bowl of mint leaves
  6. 1 tea spoon Turmeric powder
  7. 1 tea spoon kashmiri red chilly powder
  8. 1 Tea Spoon Garam Masala
  9. 3 table spoon clarified butter
  10. 1 tomato
  11. 2 table spoon curd
  12. 10 cashew nuts( fried)
  13. 10 raisins fried
  14. 2 slices of pineapple
  15. 1 onion beresta
  16. 2 banana leaves
  17. Aluminium foil
  18. 2 table spoon oil
  19. 1 pinch of saffron soaked in 1/2 cup milk
  20. 1 inch stick of cinnamon
  21. 5 to 6 clove
  22. 1/2 of a nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak rice in water for 20 minutes and discard the water and keep the rice in a sieve
  2. Keep ready all the ingredients ( tomatoes and the curd are not in the picture )
  3. Make powder of cinnamon , nutmeg and cloves keep aside
  4. Marrinate the chicken pieces with salt ginger garlic paste , Salt , 1/2 tea spoon of turmeric and kashmiri red chilly powder
  5. Put oil in a fry pan and fry the chicken pieces and remove from the oil and keep aside
  6. In a large pan heat enough water to boil the rice and put cardamom , cinnamon , black pepper
  7. after some time discard the whole garam masala and put 1 table spoon of ghee and add the soaked rice and cook it till it's 90% done
  8. Discard the water and let it cool for time
  9. Heat another pan and put rest of the ghee and oil , saute the sliced onions and garlic
  10. Add the rest dry ingredients and mix well
  11. Add tomatoes and the fried chicken cook for some time
  12. Add the curd and add the cinnamon , nutmeg and cloves powder and saute
  13. Add little water and cover it to make the chicken pieces tender
  14. Dry almost all the gravy and keep aside
  15. Now on the slow flame put the banana leaves to make it soft ( it will help to fold the leaves without tearing it )
  16. Take a large bowl put the aluminium foil into the it and make the shape
  17. Now put the banana leaf and put cooked rice and chicken
  18. Put second layer of rice and put beresta fried cashew nuts and raising , saffron milk and pineapple slices and few mint leaves
  19. Make a potli
  20. Now in a dip bottom pan heat 1 cup water and carefully put the polti into it
  21. Cover with a lid and cook for ten minutes
  22. Now serve the lip smacking Kizhi biryani with onion rings and raita of your choice
