ABOUT Goan FishCurry Rice RECIPE

There are several ways of making goan fish curry or 'hooman' as it is called in Goa. I have made 'kandyache hooman' that is using onion . Note that this recipe does not make use of 'taflaem'. I have used salmon for this recipe. Same method can be used for kingfish, promfret etc

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fish fillet 1
  2. coconut grated 1 cup
  3. onion 1 big
  4. coconut oil 2 tbsp
  5. salt
  6. Red chillies 3
  7. turmeric powder 1 tsp
  8. tamarind marble ball size
  9. pepper corn 2
  10. Corriander seeds 1 tsp


  1. clean , wash the fish and cut into required size
  2. marinate with salt and turmeric powder and set aside for 15 minutes
  3. heat oil in a utensil and saute finely chopped onion till slightly brown
  4. Add fish and saute for a minute
  5. Add water and cook till fish is almost done
  6. roast the spices
  7. grind together coconut, red chillies, black pepper, corriander seeds, tamarind and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder into a fine paste
  8. Add this to the fish and boil
  9. Add salt to taste
