ABOUT Patodi curry RECIPE

Patodi curry is a Maharashtrian recipe which is made of cooked gram flour and curry. It taste awesome when eaten with roti, paratha.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For patodi
  2. Oil 2 tablespoon
  3. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  4. Sesame seeds 1 teaspoon
  5. Red chilli powder 2 teaspoon
  6. Coriander powder 2 teaspoon
  7. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Water 2 cups
  9. Salt as to taste
  10. Gram flour (Besan) 1 1/2 cup
  11. For curry :-
  12. Mustard oil 3 tablespoon
  13. Medium sized onion 2
  14. Grated dry coconut 3/4 cup
  15. Poppy seeds 1 teaspoon
  16. Ginger 1 inch
  17. Garlic 10
  18. Bay leaf 1
  19. Cinnamon 2
  20. Cardamom 2
  21. Cloves 2
  22. Cumin 1 teaspoon
  23. Red chilli powder 3 teaspoon
  24. Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  25. Cumin powder 1 teaspoon
  26. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  27. Water 3 cups
  28. Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  29. Coriander leaves 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. For patodi :-
  2. Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pan.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds and 1 teaspoon sesame seeds to it.
  4. When the seeds start fluttering, add 2 teaspoon red chilli powder, 2 teaspoon coriander powder and 1 teaspoon turmeric powder to it.
  5. Mix everything.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and let it boil.
  7. Add salts as to taste .
  8. When it starts boiling, slowly add 11/2 cup besan while stirring it with perforated spoon (jhara).
  9. Try to remove the lumps with perforated spoon (jhara).
  10. Batter of patodi should not be smooth, it should have small granules of besan in it as shown in the photo below.
  11. Cover the lid and let it cook for 4 minutes. Open the lid , stir it and again let it cook with covered lid for another 4 minutes on low flames.
  12. Grease 1 plate with oil and sprinkle some grated coconut on it.
  13. Spread cooked patodi batter on it.
  14. Let it cool down.
  15. Cut it into diamond shape.
  16. For curry :-
  17. Heat a pan with 1 teaspoon mustard oil.
  18. Add 2 medium sized onion in it and roast .
  19. When it becomes light brown add 3/4 cup grated dry coconut and roast.
  20. Add 1 teaspoon poppy seeds.
  21. Now add 1 inch ginger and 10 garlic. Roast everything very well.
  22. Remove from heat and let cool.
  23. Take roasted mixture in mixer jar and make a fine paste of it.
  24. Heat 1 tablespoon mustard oil in a pan. Add 1 bay leaf, 2 cinnamon, 2 cloves, 2 cardamom.
  25. Now add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds.
  26. Add ground paste to it and saute it until oil starts coming out of it.
  27. Add 2 teaspoon red chilli powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1 teaspoon, cumin powder, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder and salt to taste.
  28. Mix it properly and saute it till oil is released.
  29. Now add 3 cups of water to make curry.
  30. Add 1 teaspoon garam masala powder.
  31. When it starts boiling keep it on low flames for 10 minutes.
  32. Your curry is now ready.
  33. Heat 1 tablespoon oil and add 1 teaspoon red chilli powder. Pour over the curry.
  34. Keep patodi in a plate , pour gravy over it.
  35. Garnish with 1 tablespoon coriander leaves.
  36. Serve patodi curry.
