Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup basmati rice
  2. 1/2 cup soaked kala chana
  3. 1 tomatoe chopped fine
  4. 1 onion sliced thinly
  5. 1 green chilli
  6. 1/4 cup curd
  7. 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  8. Water 1 1/2 cup(plain water + cooked kala chana water)
  9. Whole spices :
  10. Cardamon 2
  11. Cinnamon 1 small stick
  12. Cloves 4
  13. 2 bay leaves
  14. Ghee 1 tbsp
  15. Oil 1 tbsp
  16. Biryani masala 1/2 tsp
  17. Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp
  18. Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  19. Salt to season
  20. 1/4 lemon
  21. Fistful mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Add the washed and soaked kala chana to a pressure cooker.add a cup of water and pressure cook for 5 whistles. Remove and keep aside.
  2. Wash and Soak the basmati rice with sufficient water
  3. Heat oil and ghee in a small sauce pan. Add the whole spices ,bay leaves,next goes the onion. Saute till transperant
  4. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute. Now add the tomatoes and spice powders .Sprinkle salt, cover and cook till mushy.
  5. Open ,add the torn mint leaves and curd. Mix well. Now add the chana without the water. Cover and cook.
  6. Drain the basmati rice of all the water. Measure and add the kala chana water + plain water.
  7. Add all the cooked masala to the basmati rice. Drizzle with lemon juice. Check for salt.
  8. Cook in the rice cooker . Serve tasty hot kala chana biryani .
