Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Urad dal - 1cup
  2. Chana dal - 1cup
  3. Moong Dal - 1/2 cup
  4. Rice - 1 1/2 cup
  5. Turmeric powder -1tsp
  6. Red chilli powder - 1tsp
  7. Curd - 3-4 tbsp
  8. Ginger garlic paste - 1tbsp
  9. Salt - to taste
  10. mustard seeds -1-2 tsp
  11. Oil- 1tbsp
  12. Curry leave - 12-15

Instructions

  1. Soak urad dal, chana dal, rice and moong dal for 8 hours - overnight.
  2. Drain water and grind it into a smooth paste by adding little water and keep it for fermentation for about 8-10 hours.
  3. Add turmeric, red chilli powder, salt, paste(ginger,garlic and green chilli) and 3-4 tbsp curd in the mixture.
  4. When you are ready to make the dhokla, bring the water to a boil in steamer/dhokli and grease the pan well with oil now pour enough batter so as to fill half the height of the thali.
  5. Sprinkle some red chili powder on the top of the batter(optional).
  6. Steam it for 10 minutes. Check by inserting a knife or a toothpick in it, if it comes out clean then it is ready.
  7. Let cool for a minute or two. Then cut into square or diamond shapes.
  8. For the takda - Take pan add oil add mustard seed and curry leaves and add the dhoklas to the pan and stir well.
