About Upma Recipe

Healthiest south indianbreakfast recipe that we can give to our children, this is made of rava.

Upma

Ingredients to make Upma

  • 1 cup of rava
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 inch ginger jullienne
  • For tempering mustard seeds, urad dal,chana dal, curry leaves
  • 4 tsp of ghee
  • 2 1/2 cup of water
  • Some peanuts
  • 2 slit green chillies
  • cashew nuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of carrot (cubed) and green peas
  • Salt and sugar as per taste
  • Few sprigs of coriander leaves.

How to make Upma

  1. Dry roast the rava or semolina . Keep it aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a frying pan
  3. Add mustard seeds , curry leaves, chana dal, urad dal for tempering.
  4. Then add the sliced onions and green chillies
  5. Fry them for 2 minutes then add the vegetables.
  6. Cook in low flame with lid covered.
  7. Then add the water
  8. When it comes to boil , mix the rava into the water with one hand and continuously stir with another hand in order to avoid forming of lumps.
  9. Rava will more or less absorb the water
  10. Adjust the seasoning
  11. Cook for further 5 minutes on low flame.
  12. Turn off the heat when all the water gets absorbed and the rava is well cooked.
  13. Add the peanuts and coriander leaves. Mix it well and serve it hot.
