ABOUT Caterpillar bread RECIPE

These caterpillar breads don't only look attractive and cute, but they tastes yum too. You can use any stuffing of your choices like paneer, mushrooms or vegetables. I prepared with chicken stuffing. Do give it a try and surely it will be a big hit in your house. Kids gonna love these cute breads for sure.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. All purpose flour 2cups
  2. Yeast 1.5tsp
  3. Sugar 1 tbsp
  4. Salt 1/2tsp
  5. Milk powder 1 tbsp
  6. Butter 1tbsp melted
  7. Milk 1/4 cup
  8. Water 1/2cup
  9. Oil 2tbsp
  10. For stuffing -
  11. Oil 2tsp
  12. Garlic chopped 1tbsp
  13. Onion finely chopped 1 medium
  14. Boiled and shredded chicken 250gm
  15. Soya sauce 1 tsp
  16. Chilli sauce 1tsp
  17. Crushed chilli powder 1/2tsp(optional)
  18. Black pepper powder 1/2tsp
  19. Mayonnaise 3tbsp
  20. salt as per taste
  21. other ingredients -
  22. Milk/egg for wash
  23. Black and white sesame seeds 1 tsp
  24. Cloves few
  25. Butter 2tsp

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast and sugar with warm water for 10mins or until frothy.
  2. Take a mixing bowl and add APF, milk powder and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture to this.
  4. Gradually add milk and melted butter. Start kneading.
  5. Add oil and knead for 10-12 mins till it becomes smooth.
  6. Cover the dough for 1-2hours or till it doubles the size.
  7. Once it has doubled, punch down and knead further for few mins.
  8. Divide into equal sized balls.
  9. Roll it flat like chapati.
  10. Place the filling on one side and fold the dough over the filling to enclose it.
  11. Cut strips on the other half of the chapati and roll gently to the end.
  12. Place parchment paper on a baking tray and arrange the rolls on it.
  13. Cover with damp kitchen towel and keep aside for 30-40 mins.
  14. Preheat the oven 180C for 10min.
  15. Brush the top with milk/egg wash.
  16. Sprinkle sesame seeds.
  17. Make eyes of the caterpillar with cloves.
  18. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  19. Brush with butter once out of the oven.
  20. For stuffing -
  21. Heat oil in a pan.
  22. Add garlic and saute for a minute.
  23. Add onion and saute till it becomes pink in color.
  24. Now add chicken and mix well. Cook for 2mins on medium flame.
  25. Add all the sauces, spices and salt. Mix well.
  26. Finally add mayonnaise, mix and cook further for 2mins.
  27. Switch off and let it cool a bit before using.
