ABOUT Carrot puttu without puttu maker RECIPE

Puttu is a traditional kids friendly healthy breakfast recipe usually made with rice flour & coconut . Its very easy recipe and u can make puttu by steaming puttu flour in traditional puttu maker . So for this recipe u should have a puttu maker . But not owning a puttu maker should not restrict you from not enjoying u this kerala style delicacy . Here i made puttu with some variations by using rava instead of rice flour and carrot to make this puttu more healthier and yummy too . Here I made puttu in two ways ,one in a bowl and another in a murruku maker .both are looking like traditional puttu and great in taste too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cups rava
  2. 1 cup grated carrot
  3. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  4. 1 cup grated coconut
  5. Salt to taste
  6. 2 table spoon oil for greasing
  7. Water as required

Instructions

  1. Dry roast rava .
  2. Keep aside for cooling .
  3. After cooling rava add half coconut and half carrot and salt .
  4. Rub with your palm to make crumble .
  5. Add little water and mix with your hands well .
  6. Keep aside for 2 minutes .
  7. Then rub again to make bread crumbs like mixture .
  8. If needed add more water and rub again to make a lump free mixture .
  9. Now take a murruku maker open the lid and place any murruku plate in it .
  10. Grease murruku maker .
  11. Now place 2 table spoon of coconut in it .
  12. Add 2 table spoon carrot over it .
  13. Now add 5 table spoon rawa carrot mixture over it .
  14. Now repeate the procedure till murruku maker filled .
  15. Cover with aluminum foil tightly.
  16. Place this murruku maker in idli stand .
  17. Steam puttu for 5 to 6 minutes .
  18. Demold this with back of a spoon .
  19. For another way .
  20. Grease 2 big bowls .
  21. Add coconut in the bottom layer add carrot for second layer and rava carrot mixture for third layer .
  22. Repeat it .
  23. Now press the mixture of bowl with fingers and turn over a greased dhokla plate .
  24. Place dhokla plate in the steamer.
  25. Steam for 5 to 6 minutes.
  26. Serve hot with favorite sauce .Or vegetables.
