Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Dry ingredients:
  2. 140 gm (1 cup) whole wheat flour or refined flour
  3. 2 tbsp cornflour
  4. 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
  5. 2 tbsp sugar
  6. A pnch of salt
  7. Wet ingredients:
  8. 2 tbsp butter, melted
  9. 1 cup milk, warmed
  10. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  11. Water if required

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, put in all the dry ingredients, the whole wheat flour, cornflour, baking powder, salt and sugar and stir until the ingredients are mixed together.
  2. In a saucepan, mix all the wet ingredients, the melted butter, milk and vanilla extract together with the help of a whisk.
  3. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Beat the mixture very lightly, making sure that you do not overbeat the batter.
  4. If the batter is stiff then you need to add a little water. (Different flours have different water absorption capacities and therefore you need to adjust the amount of water used until you get the right consistency.) Allow this batter to rest for about 5 minutes.
  5. Brush the preheated waffle iron with melted butter using a silicon brush and pour the batter right into the centre of the waffle iron, evenly distributing the batter at the sides.
  6. Cook the waffles until they are done.
  7. Serve these waffles with chocolate sauce, jam, fresh fruits, maple syrup, whipped cream or honey.
