ABOUT Chana dal fara RECIPE

This is a healthy and traditional recipe from North India.Indian style dumplings made with wheat flour covering and chana dal stuffing.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Wheat flour 2 cups
  2. Oil 1 tbsp
  3. Salt 1 tsp
  4. Chana dal 1 cup
  5. Garlic 8-10 cloves
  6. Ginger 1 inch
  7. Green chilli 1
  8. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  9. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  10. Asafetida 1/2 tsp
  11. Fennel seeds crushed 1 tsp
  12. Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  13. Coriander 1 tbsp
  14. For tempering:
  15. Oil 2 tbsp
  16. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  17. Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  18. Curry leaves 8-10
  19. Coriander for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak chanadal for 4 hours.
  2. Drain and grind it along with garlic,chillies and ginger.
  3. Make a coarse paste.Do not add water.
  4. Now add salt,turmeric,cumin powder,fennel seeds, asafetida and garam masala.
  5. Add coriander and mix.Our stuffing is ready.
  6. Take flour,salt and oil in a bowl.Add water and knead dough.Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Keep 3-4 cups water to boil.Add 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp oil to water.
  8. Take a small ball of dough and roll into puri.Add a spoonful of stuffing.
  9. Now fold into half moon shape and seal the edges.
  10. Prepare all fara similarly.
  11. When water starts boiling,add these in it.
  12. Let it cool for 5 minutes and then turn them one by one.When done it floats on top of water.Also insert knife and check.
  13. Remove from water and keep in a sieve to cool down.
  14. After they cool down,cut into pieces.
  15. You can eat as it is also but tempering it will add to the taste.
  16. 5ake 2 spoons oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  17. Add pieces of fara and roast on slow flame till they turn golden.Serve hot with green chutney and ketchup.
