Fish Curry

Ingredients to make Fish Curry

  • King fish - 4 medium sized
  • onions - 5 medium sized
  • ginger-Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
  • tomato- 1 large sized
  • tamarind juice - 4 tsp
  • oil as required
  • curry leaves- few
  • mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Freshly ground whole spices - 2 tsp
  • red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • turmeric powder- 1 tsp
  • salt to taste

How to make Fish Curry

  1. Wash and cut the fish into equal sized pieces. Add some turmeric and mix it well. Shallow fry and remove it. Keep aside.
  2. Now add the oil used for shallow frying and some more if required to a kadai and heat it.
  3. Add in mustard seeds, when it splutters, add the finely chopped onions and curry leaves. Stir fry this for a minute.
  4. Now at the dry masalas along with some salt. Stir fry and leave it for a while.
  5. Now add the chopped tomatoes and let it cook for a while.
  6. Next pour in 4 to 5 cups of water, let it boil and cook till the onions are soft and tender. Cove this with a lid for a while.
  7. Adjust the salt as per taste and add more water if required.
  8. Next, add 2 to 3 spoons of tamarind juice. Now add the fried fishes and let it simmer for a while.
  9. Turn off the stove and sprinkle the coriander leaves on top.
  10. Serve it with hot steamed rice.

My Tip:

Fish is shallow fried, so be gentle while simmering. Don't keep stirring with a spoon after adding the fish.
