ABOUT Palak paneer RECIPE

Palak paneer is a popular and delicious North Indian dish where paneer cooked with palak or spinach puree.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 350 gm paneer
  2. For paste:
  3. 500 gm palak or spinach
  4. 1" piece ginger, chopped
  5. 8-9 garlic cloves
  6. 2-3 green chillies
  7. For gravy:
  8. 3 tbsp refined oil or ghee
  9. 1 large onion chopped
  10. 5-6 garlic cloves, minced
  11. 1/2" piece ginger, minced
  12. 2 large tomatoes, chopped
  13. 1 tsp coriander powder
  14. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  15. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  16. Salt according to taste
  17. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  18. 3 tbsp fresh cream
  19. Water as needed
  20. For tempering:
  21. 1 bay leaf
  22. 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds

Instructions

  1. Blanch the spinach leaves by putting them in boiling water with little salt for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Take them out and put them in cold water.
  3. Puree the spinach leaves in a blender along with ginger, garlic and green chillies.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Heat oil in a pan.
  6. Add bay leaf and whole cumin seeds.
  7. Add chopped onion and fry until it starts turning golden brown in colour.
  8. Add chopped garlic and ginger, saute for 1-2 minutes on medium flame till the raw smell goes away.
  9. Add in the spinach paste and mix.
  10. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Mix well
  11. Add chopped tomatoes and salt.
  12. Add water according to how thick or thin you want the gravy to be. Cover the pan and cook it for 8-10 minutes on medium flame.
  13. Add the paneer and mix. Let the curry simmer uncovered for 3-4 minutes.
  14. Add fresh cream and garam masala powder. Cook for 1 minutes on medium flame.
  15. Switch off the flame and serve palak paneer hot with naan or roti or rice.
