ABOUT Moong Dal Kheer RECIPE

As kids the menu for breakfast used to be chapati or poori, with kheer generally moong dal kheer or vermicilli payasa with some vegetable.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/4 cup Moong Dal
  2. 2-3 tablespoons Jaggery, grated (adjust to taste)
  3. 1 teaspoon Chopra/ Dry coconut, grated
  4. 1/4 teaspoon Khus Khus/Poppy Seeds
  5. 1/8 teaspoon Green Elaichi/Cardamom Powder
  6. 1/4 cup milk
  7. Water as needed
  8. A few cashew nuts and pistachios

Instructions

  1. Wash and rinse the moong dal.
  2. In a thick bottomed and deep vessel add the moong dal and water. Bring it to boil in an open pan till it's cooked.
  3. In the meanwhile, heat the chopra and khus khus/poppy seeds in a kadhai/wok till it's toasted. Heat them separately.
  4. Once the moong dal is cooked, then add the jaggery and let it melt totally. Add the khus khus/poppy seeds, chopra and the elaichi/cardamom powder.
  5. Just before serving pour in the milk.
