Ingredients Serving: 7

  1. Toor dal 1 cup
  2. For tempering
  3. Onions 3 chopped
  4. Tomatoes 2 chopped
  5. Green chillies 2
  6. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  7. Fenugreek seeds 1 tsp
  8. Curry leaves 1 strand
  9. Red chillies 2
  10. For sambar powder
  11. Red chillies 3
  12. Chana dal 1 tbsp
  13. Coriander seeds 1tbsp
  14. Cumin seeds 1tbsp
  15. Coriander leaves few
  16. Turmeric powder
  17. Asafoetida
  18. Tamarind pulp lemon sized (soaked in water and extract the juice)
  19. Salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and pressure cook dal with salt and turmeric powder
  2. Dry roast those ingredients for sambar powder and grind it to coarse powder
  3. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds,fenugreek seeds,Curry leaves ,red chillies ,asafoetida saute it
  4. Add onions ,Tomatoes and green chillies saute well
  5. Add the ground sambar powder mix well
  6. Add the cooked dal with some water
  7. Add the tamarind water and coriander leaves
  8. Cover the lid and let it cook for five minutes
  9. Serve hot with idli dosa
