ABOUT Moong Dal Curry/ Moong Dal Tadka RECIPE

Packed with protein and low on carbs, Moong dal or Green gram is one of the best vegetarian superfoods. An integral part of the Indian diet, it is a good and filling option for those who want to shed kilos, it is rich in fibre and a good source of protein for vegetarians as well.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Whole green moong - 1 cup
  2. Tomato - 1 big sized
  3. Onions - 2 big sized
  4. Ginger-Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
  5. Grounded whole spices powder- 2 tsp
  6. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  7. Green Chillies - 2
  8. Dhania/Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  9. Few curry leaves
  10. Handful of Coriander leaves
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Mustard seeds and Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 tsp each
  13. 1 lemon, cut in wedges


  1. Soak the whole moong for 10 minutes.
  2. Take a utensil and add some oil to heat. Add the mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. Next, add the broken green chillies along with the chopped onion.
  4. Stir fry and add the ginger-garlic paste.
  5. Then add the chopped tomatoes along with all the spice powders. Add little salt and mix well.
  6. Cover and cook till it's soft and mushy. Then uncover and add the washed moong.
  7. Mix well and add 4-5 cups of water. Pressure cook this till 2 whistles blow.
  8. Once it's cooked, let the pressure cool off. Check the water consistency and add salt as per taste.
  9. Let it simmer for a while, then squeeze in half a lemon.
  10. Add in the chopped coriander and 1-2 tsp of ghee if desired.
  11. It goes extremely well with phulkas, you can enjoy it with hot steamed rice as well.

Hey, you forgot to mention when to add the curry leaves.
