Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the Idli Batter:
  2. 1 cup curd
  3. 1 cup suji/rawa
  4. 1 tsp salt
  5. 1/4 cup water
  6. 1 packet eno fruit salt
  7. Ingredients to fry:
  8. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  9. 4-5 curry leaves
  10. 1 onion, finely chopped
  11. 1 tomato, finely chopped
  12. 1 capsicum, finely chopped
  13. Salt to taste
  14. 1 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  15. 2 tsp ketchup
  16. 1 tsp chilli sauce (optional)
  17. 2-3 tsp oil

Instructions

  1. To prepare the batter, take a bowl, add the curd and beat it.
  2. Then add the suji/rawa and mix it properly. Leave it aside for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add salt and mix it properly with a little water (check the consistency). ( I used a microwave idli maker and made idlis in the microwave.)
  4. Fill the container with water till the steamer plate level. Also grease the idli stand with ghee or oil.
  5. Now add half packet of the eno and mix it with the batter. Then fill in the grooves with the batter.
  6. Put it in a container and let it cook in the microwave at the highest temperature for 5-6 minutes. The timing varies with different microwaves.
  7. Once cooked, remove the cooked idlis and repeat this process again. Add half packet of eno into the batter and make the idlis.
  8. Take a wok, add little oil to heat. Then add in the mustard and curry leaves.
  9. As it starts crackling, add in the chopped onions and saute it well. Once it turns pink add in the chopped capsicum.
  10. Saute it, then add the tomatoes next and let it cook for a minute.
  11. Add salt and pepper as per taste along with ketchup. Mix it well and add a little water if required.
  12. Now add the idlis and mix it softly.
  13. Sprinkle coriander leaves and serve it with cocunut chutney.
