Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Fish- 1 kg
  2. Vinegar- 2-3 tbsp
  3. Crush red chillies- 2 tbsp
  4. Salt- 1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  6. Coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  7. Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  8. Ajwain 1/2 tsp
  9. Black pepper 1/2 tsp
  10. Black salt 1/2 tsp
  11. Dry fenugreek leaves 2 tbsp
  12. Orange food colour 1/2 tsp
  13. Garlic paste 1 tbsp
  14. Yogurt 2 tbsp
  15. Gram flour 2-3 tbsp
  16. Oil to fry


  1. Pour 1 cup of vinegar in a bowl. Then add in 3 cups of water and soak the fish for 30 mins to remove the odour. Then drain and keep it in a strainer.
  2. Dry roast the coriander seeds, cumin seeds and turn off the flame. Now add the ajwain, crushed red chilli and mix it. Keep it aside to cool. Coarsely grind these ingredients together.
  3. Now take a big bowl and add all spices, dry roast spices, yogurt and garlic paste. Add vinegar and make a thick paste, add water if needed.
  4. Coat all the fish fillets in it and keep it in a refrigerator to marinate for atleast 2-3 hours.
  5. Preheat the oil in a frying pan or in a wok, put in a few fillets in the oil and fry on a medium flame. Do not turn it immediately, give it 2 mins. Let it cook from one side and turn it to the other side.
  6. Once they become golden and crispy, place them on a paper towel or kitchen towel.
  7. Serve it with onion slices, lemon slices and sprinkle chat masala on top.
