ABOUT Crispy Mawa Gujiya RECIPE

Gujiya, a popular sweet delicacy is known with different names such as pedakiya, karanji and many more. It is one of those sweet dishes without which the celebration of Holi always seems incomplete. From gajar ka halwa to malpua, the festival of Holi is all about delectable sweet dishes. And gujiya is one such sweet dish that has an appearance more or less like a dumpling that is deep-fried and is stuffed with khoya. The crispiness of the outer layer and the mouth-watering flavours of the khoya which is filled with dry fruits simply makes gujiya an irresistible dish during Holi.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Maida- 2- cup
  2. Ghee- 3- cup
  3. Milk- 1/2- cup
  4. Khoya- 1- cup
  5. Sugar- 2- cup
  6. Cardamom- 1- tbsp
  7. Chopped Almonds- 1- tbsp
  8. Water- 2- cup

Instructions

  1. Pour 1/3 cup ghee into the maida and knead it into a firm dough. Leave it to rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Stir the khoya till it becomes a little golden. Add crushed cardamom, chopped almonds, and sugar when it cools down.
  3. Make small balls of dough and roll out into small 4 to 5 inch diameter circles.
  4. Wet the edges of the round with water and place 1 tbsp of the khoya filling over one half.
  5. Fold the other half and press the edges to seal the gujiya.
  6. You can cut off the edges with a cutter or simply fold the edges in pleated design.
  7. Heat ghee in a kadhai and start placing gujiyas in it.
  8. Lower the heat to medium and fry till they're golden brown.
  9. When cooked, take out gujiyas in an absorbent paper or tissue paper.
  10. Cook sugar with water till one thread consistency to make sugar syrup.
  11. Dip gujiyas in it and take out on a plate.
  12. Eat hot or wait for them to cool down. You can also store them in a container for later use.
