Chana Dal

Ingredients to make Chana Dal

  • chana dal 2 cups
  • ginger and Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • onion 1 medium sized, chopped
  • tomatoes 1 medium sized, chopped
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • Saunf/ fennel 1 tbsp
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Degi mirch 1 tsp
  • red chilli 1
  • water 6 cups (adjust accordingly)
  • salt to taste

How to make Chana Dal

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add the red chilli, saunf, turmeric, degi mirch, ginger, garlic, onions, saute till it's translucent.
  2. Add the tomatoes and saute till the oil separates itself.
  3. Add the dal, water, salt, garam masala. Cover and cook till it's done or 5-6 whistles blow.
  4. Serve it hot with rice.

My Tip:

It will taste even better if the dal is first boiled, then the tadka is added to it.
