Sunday breakfast starts with this hot spicy mutton pepper kuzhambu with soft idli and dosa is an unsaid ritual in our family. Its a heirloom recipe passed on from my great grandmother to my dad's mom to my mom and now to me. Cook and enjoy its taste.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/2 kg mutton
  2. 3 medium sized onions
  3. Ginger garlic paste 3 tsp
  4. 10 Garlic cloves
  5. Black pepper 3 tsp
  6. 1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  7. 1 tsp coriander powder
  8. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  9. Curry leaves 1 sprig
  10. Oil 2 tsp
  11. Fennel Seeds 1 tsp
  12. One blade of cinnamon
  13. 2 Bay Leaves
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the mutton.
  2. Finely chop one onion and roughly chop the remaining one onion.
  3. In a pressure cooker add the chopped onions, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and mutton with 1/2 cup of water.
  4. Pressure cook for three whistles.
  5. Add one tsp of oil to a wok and add the roughly chopped onion, garlic cloves and pepper. Saute for two minutes. Grind this to a paste adding 1/4 cup water.
  6. Add one tsp oil and temper the fennel seeds, clove, cinnamon,curry leaves and bay leaves.
  7. Once the steam of pressure cooker settles down, add the ground paste, tempering and cook for five minutes.
  8. Serve hot with idlis and dosa.
