ABOUT Wheat Rawa Upma with Green peas RECIPE

Upma or Uppuma or Uppittu is a common South Indian and Kannada breakfast dish.The word 'Uppu' means Salt and the word 'Mavu' or 'Hittu' means flour. Hence the name Uppumavu or Uppittu. In North India, it is called Upma, short-form for Uppumavu. Here i have described about the preparation of broken wheat upma known as Gothumai ravai or samba ravai in Tamil and Dalia in Hindi as well.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Roasted Broken wheat - 250 gm
  2. Boiled Green peas - 1 Cup
  3. Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
  4. Urad dhal - 1/2 Tsp
  5. cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
  6. Small or Big onion -1
  7. Green Chillies - 3
  8. Curry Leaves - 1 sprig

Instructions

  1. Nowadays roasted broken wheat are available in the shops. If not, you roast it by keeping a stove in low flame and just heat.
  2. Heat a kadai with a Tsp of oil add mustard seeds and allow to crackle.
  3. Add Urad Dhal, cumin seeds and chopped onion, green chillies, curry leaves and saute well.
  4. Once the onion becomes transparent, add the boiled green peas and give a stir.
  5. Add required water, salt and bring to boil.
  6. Cover the kadai with lid and stir often by sprinkling water in between.Simmer the flame and add the broken wheat slowly, stir continuously.
  7. Finally water gets evaporate and it becomes soft.
  8. Hot Upma is ready to serve with idli podi and curd is also a good combination.

Nice recipe. You can pressure cook broken wheat by adding water double the messurment of broken wheat and give 2 whistle.
