ABOUT Thurai/Ridge gourd/Peerkankai/Beerakaya Curry RECIPE

An Andhra special with less ingredients and easy to make dish. Learnt from a friend and tried 44 years back. A favourite dish of all my family members. And was liked by a friend who tasted it and remembers it till date.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Ridge gourd 500 gms
  2. Cumin seeds/jeera 2 tsp
  3. Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Oil 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut ridge gourd to medium cubes. Check for bitterness if any before cooking.
  2. Heat oil and add ridge gourd pieces. Cover and cook till done.
  3. Make powder of jeera and chilli after slightly roasting them. ( I used bedege chilli for red color) Mix well, add salt. Add this to the cooked ridge gourd and stir fry till moisture in the gourd is absorbed and the oil floats.
  4. Remove and serve with hot rice and ghee.
