ABOUT Goan Prawns Curry RECIPE

This curry is famous in Goa and one of my favorites. Very simple to prepare . Prawns are cooked in the coconut gravy and served with rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Medium size Prawns 1 Cup
  2. Fresh grated coconut 1 cup
  3. Medium size onion 1
  4. tamarind (small marble size ball)
  5. Black pepper corns 3-4
  6. coriander seeds 1 Teaspoon
  7. Slit green chilies 2-3
  8. turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  9. Dry red chilies 4-5
  10. Asafoeteda (Hing) 1 Teaspoon
  11. Small Green mango 1
  12. salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the prawns. Throw the head and devein them.
  2. Rinse them well 3-4 times with water and keep aside.
  3. Chop the onion very fine.
  4. Peel off the green mango and chop it into very small pieces.
  5. In a saucepan kept on medium high heat, add chopped onions, and mango pieces. Add little water and cook till the mango pieces become soft.
  6. Add hing ,slit chilies , prawns and continue to cook.
  7. Let it be on the heat till prawns are well cooked. They will turn the color to white.
  8. While the prawns are cooking, prepare paste by grinding together coconut, dry red chilies, pepper corns, coriander seeds and turmeric powder using little water.
  9. Pour this paste over cooked prawns mixture and simmer on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat and serve on hot steamy rice.
