This recipe is a fish curry recipe. Hearing word fish itself makes water drooling through most of the keralites This is the more traditional red fish curry of kerala and very spicy in taste.This fish curry Alliterates prefer to eat with Kappa or with rice. Tried making this in my mom style though i never get her taste but happy about the color i got in this recipe. Pomfret fish curry is a very popular dish of Kerala cuisine and it is liked by the people of every region. Kerala is known as land of spices so the dishes of Kerala cuisine are prepared with a lot of aromatic Indian spices. In Pomfret fish curry pieces of fish are cooked with spicy and delicious curry. It is a tasty as well as healthy dish because fish contains a large amount of proteins and vitamins. This dish is prepared with the pan seared masala combine with the spice intense fish and cooked to perfection. This Pomfret fish curry is more similar to Tilpia fish curry and is flavorful and aromatic. People of different region prepare this recipe with a lot of variation. Kerala style Pomfret fish curry is a famous version of this recipe. Pomfret Initially, a curry is prepared using aromatic spices like curry leaves, coriander leaves, fenugreek seeds, ginger garlic paste etc. Then the fish is added to the curry. Coconut oil enhances the taste of Kerala style Pomfret fish curry. You can serve it as a side dish with roti or rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fish 500g cut into medium pieces
  2. Fenugreek seeds 1/2 tsp
  3. Small onion 8-10
  4. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  5. Kashmiri chilli powde 2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  7. Coriander powder 3 tsp
  8. Ginger garlic paste 3 tsp
  9. Gambooge (kudampuli) 2-3 pieces
  10. Curry leaves 6-8
  11. Water 1 cup
  12. Oil 1 tblsp
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan splutter Fenugreek seeds.Add curry leaves, and chopped small onions,ginger and garlic fry until it turns nice brown color.
  2. Add water and Gambooge to the pan and mix well. Let it boil nicely.
  3. Once it start boiling add fish pieces and swirl the pan.
  4. Keep the pan covered and cook in low flame till oil starts appearing on the top. It will take approx 8-10 min for this. By this time fish will be cooked and gravy will be thick.
  5. Once gravy thickens pour coconut oil on top followed by curry leaves and pinch of Fenugreel powder.
  6. Give a lite mix and immediately close the lid to settle the aroma.Keep the pan closed for 10 min.
  7. Serve with kappa, rice etc
