Baked Caramel Flan

Ingredients to make Baked Caramel Flan

  • 500 ml - milk
  • 1/4 cup - sugar
  • 3 - eggs
  • 2 tsp - vanilla essence
  • 5 tbsp - sugar for making caramel
  • 1 tbsp - water

How to make Baked Caramel Flan

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degree C.
  2. In a nonstick pan, add 5 tbsp sugar and 1 tbsp of water and swirl the pan to help it melt down to prepare the caramel.
  3. Let the caramel be on low flame and allow it to bubble up till it turns golden brown. Don't stir the pan which results in a sticky caramel. Pour this caramel in a baking pan and carefully spread it evenly.
  4. Now in a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, remaining sugar and vanilla till light and fluffy. Add in milk and mix well. Sieve the mixture and pour it over the cooled caramel.
  5. Place the caramel pan inside a bigger pan and fill the bigger pan half way with water. Bake it for 30 - 35 mins. Allow it to cool completely and chill in the fridge for around 3 hours or overnight.
  6. Now run a knife through the sides of the pan and de-mould the custard to a serving plate and serve chilled.
