Ingredients to make Pattus Kodi Guddu Chiyali (roasted egg idli)

  • Idli batter - this batter is made using boiled rice, and urad (Bengal dal) whole
  • egg - 2
  • onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Green chilies - 2 finely chopped
  • curry leaves - leaves of 1 stem
  • mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Chana (chickpea) - 1 tsp,
  • Coarsely crushed pepper powder -1/2 tsp,
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp,
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp as we are adding green chillies and black pepper powder too,
  • oil - 1 tsp,
  • salt - as per taste

How to make Pattus Kodi Guddu Chiyali (roasted egg idli)

  1. Beat two eggs in the idli batter along with required salt and steam idlies in idli cooker. Cool them and cut them in small pieces.
  2. Now heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds when it crackles add chick pea and onions along with chillies and curry leaves fry till the onions turn translucent now add the egg idli pieces and fry it. Add chilli powder, turmeric, salt.
  3. Now add the pepper powder and mix well and roast till they turn brown. Serve it as snack or breakfast.

My Tip:

Boiled rice idli batter requires 4 cups of rice and 1 cup of whole urad dal along with 1/2 tsp of fenugreek seeds soaked for 6 hours and grinded in grinder with a fistful of cooked rice and by adding required water. South Indian idli batter is special and tastes yumm.
