Being a South Indian girl I have seen my mom making different types of appam, dosa and upma. Yes, this is one of my childhood recipe which is not only tasty but healthy too. Makes a good use of leftover bread.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bread slices (White or Brown) - 8-10 pieces
  2. onion - 1 Big thinly sliced
  3. Green Chilies - 2
  4. coriander leaves - Chopped finely
  5. Vegetables of your choice - Carrot, capsicum, tomato, green peas
  6. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Zeera seeds- 1 tsp
  8. oil as required
  9. lemon juice - 2 tbsp
  10. sugar - 1 tsp
  11. salt as per your taste
  12. tomato ketchup -As per taste
  13. chicken masala - As per taste
  14. turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  15. Zeera powder- 1 tsp


  1. Crumble bread slices or just roughly crush it in a grinder. Don't make a powder, just one round of grinding to break the pieces.
  2. Heat pan and dry roast crumbled bread pieces until all moisture goes off.
  3. Remove from pan and set aside. In the same pan heat oil, add mustard seeds, zeera seeds allow to splutter.
  4. Add onion and other vegetables of your choice and fry until veggies turns tender.
  5. Add masala powder, turmeric, zeera and chicken masala and then add tomato and tomato ketchup stir well. Cover with a lid and cook until tomato turns soft.
  6. Add salt, sugar, lemon juice and stir well. Add some of the chopped coriander leaves and give a nice mix. Now add bread crumbs and mix until it incorporated with all the masala.
  7. Switch of the flame and garnish with more coriander leaves, serve hot with tea or coffee.
