ABOUT Malaadu RECIPE

A tasty ladoo made out of roasted black chickpea with less ghee and a dieter's delight. This is a speciality of Tirunelvelli district in Tamil Nadu and is made during Diwali and marriages.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Roasted black chickpea (Bhuna hua chana / Chutney dal) - 1 cup
  2. Sugar - 3/4 cup
  3. Clarified butter (ghee) - 3 - 4 tbsp
  4. Green cardamom pods (Elaichi) - 2
  5. Cashew nut - 2 tsp (roughly broken)

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the chickpea till it is golden brown in colour.
  2. Grind it to a fine powder.
  3. Powder the sugar and green cardamom.
  4. Fry the cashew nut in some ghee and keep aside.
  5. Mix all the above and add ghee.
  6. Mix the ghee with a light hand and take a handful of the mixture and press tightly to bind it into a ball (ladoo)
