Ingredients to make Methi matar malai

  • Methi/ fenugreek leaves 2 bunch
  • Grean peas 1/2 cup
  • onion 2 medium sized
  • cashew 10 pieces
  • cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Cardomom 2
  • cloves 4
  • sugar 1/4 tsp
  • salt as per taste
  • turmeric powder just a pinch
  • Green chilli 5
  • oil 2 tsp
  • butter 2 tsp
  • Milk 1/4 cup
  • FRESH cream 2 TBSP

How to make Methi matar malai

  1. Heat oil and cumin seeds
  2. Once they sizzle, add onion , green chillies and cook till they turn transparent
  3. Add in the cloves and fry for about a minute
  4. Cool down the onion mixture
  5. Grind the onion mixture along with cardamom and cashews to a smooth paste
  6. Heat butter and add methi/ fenugreek leaves and fry for about 2 to 3 minutes
  7. Add the green peas (I use the frozen peas) and cook till they are done
  8. Add the ground onion cashew mixture and fry for about 7 minutes till it is cooked well
  9. Add turmeric, salt, sugar and mix well
  10. Add milk and simmer the flame
  11. Cook for about 2 mins in low flame
  12. Switch the flame off and add the fresh cream
  13. Mix well and serve hot with either rice or rotis

My Tip:

1. Butter gives a beautiful flavour to the dish. So do not replace it with oil 2. You can add additional cream for garnishing just before serving
