ABOUT Spicy Paniyaram RECIPE

This dish is made with the use of leftover batter of idly or dosa. This is mainly a dish which originates from Tamil Nadu and is very healthy. A quick and easy snack option or a tiffin option for all age groups. You can also make Sweet Paniyarams with various options of ingredients.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 cups Idly/ Dosa Batter
  2. 1 finely chopped onion
  3. 3 to 4 finely chopped green chillies
  4. 1 tsp Asafoetida
  5. 1 tbsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
  6. 1/2 inch finely chopped ginger
  7. 1 tbsp freshly grated coconut
  8. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the onions, green chillies, coconut, ginger, coriander leaves and salt together and mash them roughly.
  2. Once done, mix this mixture in the Idly/Dosa batter bowl. Stir well.
  3. To prepare the paniyarams, we get a special paniyaram maker called paniyaram chatti, in Maharashtra it's basically called a Appe Patra. Heat this maker on the gas stove.
  4. Add a few drops of oil in each hole of the Paniayaram chatti. With the help of a spoon fill every hole with this batter.
  5. Now, cover the maker with a lid and let the paniyarams cook for 2 mins on a low or medium flame.
  6. Take out the lid and turn each paniyaram and cook the other side so that it gets crispy.
  7. Once cooked nicely from both the sides, take them out and serve these paniyarams with chutney.
