Who would not love Chinese food and especially when it is cooked in very less oil? Pan Fried Chili Chicken is a completely no deep fried recipe which has an awesome Chinese touch and is one of the best appetizers.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Boneless chicken breasts 1 lb/ 450 gms
  2. Olive oil 3 tablespoons
  3. Bell pepper 1
  4. Medium sized onion 1
  5. Minced or chopped garlic cloves 8
  6. Green chillies, slit vertically 6
  7. Few chopped green onions (optional)
  8. Soy sauce 4 tablespoons
  9. Black pepper powder 2 teaspoon
  10. Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  11. Egg 1 (well beaten)
  12. Rice flour 1 tablespoon
  13. Red chilli sauce 1-2 tablespoon
  14. Tomato ketchup 2 teaspoon
  15. Honey 2-3 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Wash the chicken breasts well with water, then cut them into vertical strips or into small cubes.
  2. In a bowl, prepare the marinade by beating the egg and mix in 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon black pepper powder, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder and 1 tablespoon rice flour. Add in the chicken strips and mix it well.
  3. Heat a skillet and drizzle oil in it. Place in all the coated chicken pieces well apart from each other. Let them fry on a medium-high heat till it's nice and soft on all the sides. (They should change color to golden brown.) Check with a toothpick if the chicken is cooked well.
  4. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce by combining 3 tablespoon soy sauce, red chilli sauce, tomato ketchup,1 teaspoon black pepper powder and honey. Then keep it aside.
  5. Peel and cut the onion into halves. Then cut each half into 2 and separate all the layers. Keep them aside. Similarly, roughly chop the bell pepper into cubes.
  6. Heat a tablespoon oil in a saucepan and add in the chopped garlic. Saute for a few seconds, then add in the chillies, onions and bell pepper. Mix and cover it. Let it cook on a medium heat for 2-3 minutes, then pour in the prepared sauce and mix well.
  7. Add the pan fried chicken and mix well. Sprinkle some chopped green onions on top.
  8. Simmer on a low heat for 5 minutes, then remove it from the heat.
  9. Serve this delicious pan fried chilli chicken with rice or as an appetizer.
