ABOUT Kozhukkattai (Sweet Rice Dumplings) RECIPE

Kozhukatta or Kozhukkattai is a popular South Indian sweet dumpling made from rice flour, with a filling of grated coconut and jaggery, it is similar to Modak made that is made in other parts of India.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice Flour: 2 Cups
  2. Grated Coconut:- 1 and 1/2 cup
  3. Grated Jaggery:- 1/2 - 1 cup
  4. Cardamom Powder:- 1 tsp
  5. Ghee:- 1 tsp
  6. Water:- 2 and 1/2 cup
  7. Salt:- a pinch

Instructions

  1. Sieve the flour to remove the larger sized lumps. Then add salt, ghee, water and boil it.
  2. Pour this water into the rice powder and knead well to make smooth dough, without any lumps. Now make big lemon sized balls out of this dough.
  3. Next, mix in the grated jaggery, coconut, cardamom powder and set it aside.
  4. Spread a little oil on your palm and take a ball of dough and flatten it slightly. Put a spoonful of the mixture in this and secure all the sides and roll it lightly. Prepare the entire balls using the rest of the dough.
  5. Steam the kozhukkattas (in an idiyappam / idly maker) till they are done and serve them warm.
