Dried Green Peas Masala

Ingredients to make Dried Green Peas Masala

  • 1/2 cup dried green peas
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Dried Green Peas Masala

  1. Wash and soak the green peas in water for 6-8 hours. Then pressure cook for 3 to 5 whistles.
  2. Grind the diced onions without any water. Transfer it to a separate bowl.
  3. Then grind the chopped tomatoes nicely.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add in the fennel seeds. Saute till it becomes fragrant.
  5. Add the onion paste and saute it continuously till the raw smell of the onion disappears.
  6. Then add the tomato paste. Stir the paste very well. After 2 minutes, add in the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and required salt.
  7. When you see the oil separate from the gravy, add in the cooked green peas, garam masala powder and sugar. Add 1/4 cup water and bring it to boil till the green peas are blended well with the onion tomato paste.
  8. Finally, add in the melted ghee on top of the gravy and remove it from the flame. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  9. Enjoy this tasty masala with roti or dosas.

My Tip:

If you are using fresh green peas, steam them separately and add it to the gravy. Red ripe tomatoes taste good for this masala.
