Raw banana podi is an authentic side dish which can be converted to delicious lunch box recipe. Raw banana is as versatile as potato. It absorbs the flavors quickly and lends itself to cooking style. Here is a one pot meal that my children have not figured out for many years that it is made of Raw banana

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw banana - 2
  2. Cooked grainy rice - 1 bowl (200g)
  3. salt - 1 tsp
  4. Asefoetida - 1 Tsp
  5. To Temper
  6. Ghee - 2 tsp
  7. Split Urad dal - 1 Tbsp
  8. Curry leaves - 1 Spring
  9. Curry powder - To dry roast and grind
  10. Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
  11. Channa dal - 1 tbsp
  12. Dry Chillies - 4

Instructions

  1. Cut the banana into halves and steam them with skin in the pressure cooker for about 10 min.
  2. Then remove the skin and allow the banana to cool down.
  3. Slowly break the banana with hand/spatula, without turning it mushy
  4. Dry roast the ingredients given for curry powder and make a coarse powder.
  5. Add the curry powder, salt and Asefotida to the banana. Banana along with spices would turn to aromatic curry.
  6. Add the rice along with tempering do the curry and gently mix it. The rice is very aromatic and grainy. And has longer shelf life.
