Raw banana Podi - A one pot meal

Ingredients to make Raw banana Podi - A one pot meal

  • Raw banana - 2
  • Cooked grainy rice - 1 bowl (200g)
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • Asefoetida - 1 Tsp
  • To Temper
  • ghee - 2 tsp
  • Split urad dal - 1 Tbsp
  • curry leaves - 1 Spring
  • Curry powder - To dry roast and grind
  • coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
  • Channa dal - 1 tbsp
  • Dry Chillies - 4

How to make Raw banana Podi - A one pot meal

  1. Cut the banana into halves and steam them with skin in the pressure cooker for about 10 min.
  2. Then remove the skin and allow the banana to cool down.
  3. Slowly break the banana with hand/spatula, without turning it mushy
  4. Dry roast the ingredients given for curry powder and make a coarse powder.
  5. Add the curry powder, salt and Asefotida to the banana. Banana along with spices would turn to aromatic curry.
  6. Add the rice along with tempering do the curry and gently mix it. The rice is very aromatic and grainy. And has longer shelf life.

My Tip:

This is a Tanjore Cuisine Speciality recipe and is an authentic lunch box recipe from good old days.
