ABOUT Mahali Pickle (Sarasaparilla pickle) RECIPE

Mahali as it called in Tamil, known as sarasapariila root in english is known to few people.we get mostly in tamil nadu during winters.its known to be a blood purifier and it has no oil.it is soaked in mustard sauce. It has an unique pungent smell of its own. it's a favourite acompaniment to many food items

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 500 gms of mahali root
  2. 2 tbsp of mustard seeds ground to paste
  3. 10 to 15 green chilles cut into one inch pieces
  4. 200 gms of ginger cut into small pieces
  5. 8 lemons cut into mall pieces
  6. Juice of 5 lemons
  7. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 250 gms of curd preferably home made

Instructions

  1. Remove the skin of the mahali root,r remove inside bark of the root which is hard
  2. Cut into small pieces
  3. Mix ginger ,green chillies,mahali pieces, lemon pieces,mustard sauce,turmeric ,salt and whisked curd and lemon juice
  4. Keep it for two to three days. Use
  5. When ever you use,take a little in cup and add fresh whisked curd or thick butter milk
  6. It can be kept for 1 to 2 years. Keeps fresh when refrigerated
