Mackeral Fish Fry

Ingredients to make Mackeral Fish Fry

  • 5 Black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • salt to taste
  • 1 lemon
  • 1" piece ginger, crushed
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 whole mackeral
  • 2 tsbp vegetable oil

How to make Mackeral Fish Fry

  1. Wash and clean the fish. Make gashes so that when it is marinated, the spices would get into the flesh.
  2. Crush the pepper, cumin, and coriander seeds in a pestal-mortar and place into a bowl.
  3. Crush the ginger and garlic and add to the bowl as well.
  4. Mix in the chilli, turmeric, salt and juice from the lemon to make a paste.
  5. Smear the paste over the fish.
  6. Shallow fry the fish in a frying pan on a gentle heat for about 4-5 mins on each side.
  7. Drizzle a little oil over the fish, at the end so that it will crisp up.
  8. Serve with onion slices and lemon wedges.

My Tip:

You can use whole fishes or fillets. Make gashes/slits on both sides of the fish, else there will be a bit of difficulty in getting the masala paste adhering on to the shiny skin.
