Ingredients to make Ool Chingri / Prawns Yam

  • Yam / Arvi 500 gms
  • potato 1 large optional
  • onions chopped 2
  • garlic pods chopped 3
  • ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli 2
  • Prawns medium sized 15
  • cardamom 2 crushed
  • cloves 2 crushed
  • bay leaf 1 crushed
  • cinnamon 1 inch
  • sugar 1/2 tsp
  • salt as per taste
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • tomato 1 large , make puree

How to make Ool Chingri / Prawns Yam

  1. Wash and deveined prawns
  2. Marinate with little turmeric powder and salt for 20 mins
  3. Cut potatoes in cubes
  4. Cut yams in cubes , pressure for 1 whistle
  5. Make tomato puree
  6. Heat oil fry potato cubes until they are brown , keep aside
  7. Now in the same pan heat little oil and stir fry prawns , until they turn light brown , keep aside .
  8. Now again heat oil , add crushed cloves , bay leaf , cardamom , cinnamon , add onions , pan fry them , use only little oil and cook without cover ,until translucent
  9. Add garlic and ginger paste
  10. Stir for sometime
  11. Add tomato puree , cook until the raw smell goes off
  12. Now add turmeric powder , cumin powder , coriander powder , chilli powder with 1-2 tsp water
  13. Add the spice paste to the pan , add yam and potato , fry for some time and add salt too
  14. Now add 1 cup warm water , let the gravy boil
  15. Add sugar
  16. Also add garam masala
  17. Serve with hot rice
