Chole Bhature

Ingredients to make Chole Bhature

  • For the pooris
  • all purpose flour 1 cup
  • Whole wheat flour 1 cup
  • salt to taste
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • For the chole
  • Washed and soaked chick peas overnight preferably 2 cups
  • tamarind pulp 2 tbsp, squeezed out of soaked lemon sized tamarind piece
  • Roasted cumin and coriander powders 1 tsp each
  • red chilli POWDER 1 TBSP
  • tomatoes 2 chopped
  • onions finely chopped 2
  • Chana masala 2 tbsp
  • coriander leaves for garnishing as required
  • onion rings for garnishing

How to make Chole Bhature

  1. Make a soft dough out of all the ingredients listed under dough preparation.
  2. Rest it for 15 mins and meanwhile prepare the chole masala.
  3. Boil the chickpeas with little salt.
  4. Saute the onions and all the masalas well.
  5. Throw in the tomatoes and let it simmer until done.
  6. Add the tamarind pulp.
  7. Add the boiled chole now and cook for 5 mins until the raw smell of tamarind goes away.
  8. Garnish with coriander and onion rings and serve hot with bhaturas.
  9. Divide the dough into small lemon sized balls and roll into semi thick rotis.
  10. Deep fry in hot oil. Flame should not be too high. Medium to high is recommended.
  11. Drain well and make all of them in the similar way.

My Tip:

You can opt for either lemon juice or some tamarind pulp.
