ABOUT Falafel with a twist RECIPE

Falafel is a deep fried ball that is made from chickpeas and spices. Falafel is very popular in the Middle East as a fast food.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup chickpeas (washed and soaked in enough water overnight and boiled)
  2. 1 large Onion, chopped
  3. 2 Cloves of Garlic, finely chopped
  4. 2 1/2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  5. 1 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  6. 1 tsp cumin
  7. 2 to 3 tbsp multigrain flour
  8. 3 tbsp grated carrot
  9. Red chili powder as required
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Oil to deep fry
  12. Diced green bell pepper, tomatoes and cucumber to garnish

Instructions

  1. Drain the excess water from the boiled chickpeas and allow them to cool down.
  2. Take a large bowl, add chickpeas, garlic, onion, parsley, coriander leaves, cumin, salt, red chili powder, grated carrot and multigrain flour.
  3. Mash chickpeas ensuring that the ingredients mix well together.
  4. Form the mixture into small sized balls.
  5. Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the balls until golden brown in colour.
  6. Drain on an absorbent paper.
  7. Take a serving plate and arrange diced green bell pepper, tomatoes and cucumber.
  8. Now put falafel balls over it and serve hot with pita bread and hummus.
