Thattai is a South Indian recipe. Thattai is a deep fried snack made with rice flour and commonly prepared during Krishna Jayanthi(Gokulashtami)

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rice flour 1 cup
  2. Udid dal powder 1 tsp
  3. Hing powder 1\4 tsp
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Oil as required
  6. Chana dal 1 tsp
  7. Sesame seed 1\2 tsp
  8. Jeera 1\2 tsp
  9. Black pepper powder 1\4 tsp
  10. Butter 1& 1/2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Soak chana dal in water for 1\2 hour. Sieve the rice flour, add butter, jeera, sesame seed,salt, hing powder,black pepper powder and soaked chana dal(drained) Mix well.
  2. Add water and bind together and knead into a chapati like dough.
  3. Take a clean white cloth, Dip in water and squeeze out all the water Take lemon size portion and make small balls. Flatten on the wet cloth and make a hole in the center with finger dipped in oil
  4. Make all the thattais Heat oil in a kadai, put 4 or 5 pieces in oil in one batch.
  5. Deep fry both sides until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towel to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve. You may store in an air tight container

The chana dal need not be fried/powdered? Can any masala be added to the mixture?
