Orange Peel Candy

Ingredients to make Orange Peel Candy

  • Peel of 1 orange
  • sugar – 1/2 cup.
  • water – 1/2 cup.
  • water – 2 cups ( for boiling orange peel).

How to make Orange Peel Candy

  1. Peel the orange skin and clean the fibres from it. Slice it to thin stripes.
  2. Heat 2 cups of water in a wide vessel and add the sliced orange peel and boil for 5 mins.
  3. Remove from flame , drain the water and boil again in fresh water.
  4. Repeat the process 3 times ( this is done to remove the bitterness from orange peel).
  5. Orange peel will turn transparent and glossy.
  6. Drain the water and let it rest for 5 mins until the sugar syrup is ready.
  7. In a wide vessel add sugar and water , boil till the sugar dissolves .Now add the boiled orange peel and boil till the water evaporates and orange peel absorbs the syrup completely.
  8. Remove from vessel and place on a wire rack for 30 mins or more until the candy dries up.
  9. Now sprinkle sugar or castor sugar and refrigerate for 30 mins. Remove from fridge and enjoy.

My Tip:

You can use this candy in cakes, just chop the candy to small pieces and add to your fruit cakes. If stored in an airtight container the candy remains fresh for 1 week.
