How to make Homely Orangy- Apple Crumb Pie

  1. Wash, peel and cube the apples.
  2. Sprinkle the sugar on top of the apples, along with the water.
  3. Mix gently
  4. Put this in a microwave safe dish and microwave for 3-4 minutes on high.
  5. Take the dish out, your apples will be soft and the sugar melted.
  6. Add in the cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, orange juice, walnuts and raisins and gently mix in with a spoon.
  7. Keep the apple mix aside.
  8. Now powder the Marie biscuits by whizzing them once in a jar of your mixer or by simply using a rolling pin.
  9. Crush the cornflakes using a rolling pin.
  10. Now take the crushed biscuits and the cornflakes out in a mixing bowl, add the butter and little by little and make a crumby dough.
  11. Now take a baking dish, brush some butter on the base and the sides
  12. Take 1/2 of the butter - biscuit- cornflakes crumb mixture and line the bottom in an even layer with this.
  13. Pat in place using your palms.
  14. Place the baking dish in the fridge for 15 minutes for the base to get firm.
  15. Now take the dish out of the fridge once the base gets set.
  16. Gently pour in the apple mix into this.
  17. You can sprinkle a little more sugar on top of this if you wish.
  18. Place the cinnamon sticks, broken into 1/2 inch pieces on top of the apple mix.
  19. Now take the rest of the butter - biscuit-cornflakes dough and layer it on top of the apple filling.
  20. Dot this gently on top with some butter and pat in lightly to firm up the top layer.
  21. Place this in a pre heated oven with the temperature set at 150 Degree Celsius
  22. Bake for 20 minutes or more till the crust browns on top and a warm, intoxicating aroma fills up the surroundings.
  23. Serve the apple crumble pie warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on the side.

My Tip:

You can use a little Orange Marmalade or Dried Orange Peel Powder too along with the juice in the apple filling. You can even add in a dash of rum in the apple filling, it tastes great, especially in cold, winter months.
