Vermicelli Upma

Ingredients to make Vermicelli Upma

  • Seviyan 1 1/2 cups or fine whole wheat vermicelli, roasted and kept aside.
  • onion Chopped 1 medium sized
  • mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli chopped 1/2 tsp
  • water 1 cup
  • salt as required
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • peas (optional ) 1/2 cup
  • peanuts ( optional)

How to make Vermicelli Upma

  1. First roast the vermicelli till browned or you can use ready roasted vermicelli.
  2. Heat oil in a pan.
  3. Add the mustard seeds and let them pop in the oil.
  4. Now add the green chilli, red chilli, peas , peanuts and saute .
  5. Add water , salt and let the mixture come to a boil.
  6. Lower the flame and add the roasted vermicelli.
  7. Stir and cook the vermicelli till they become soft and all the water is absorbed .
  8. Keep on stirring in between .
  9. When the vermicelli is cooked completely and all the water is absorbed , switch off the fire.
  10. Serve the hot vermicelli upma
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and fried onion.
