ABOUT Mexican Tacos with a twist RECIPE

Mexican Tacos are generally filled in with rajma beans & salsa sauce. Here comes a twist to suit it up to our indian pallet, I have filled it with a Maharashtra famous Teekhi misal with Kat (gravy) & served with farsan. Idea: Cookery show on TV.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. To make Misal:
  2. Oil - 2 tsp
  3. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  4. Handful of curry leaves.
  5. Red chili powder - 2 tbsp
  6. 1 tsp - Haldi | Turmeric Powder
  7. Onion chopped - 1
  8. tomatoes - 1 (chopped)
  9. (boiled & mashed) Potato - 1
  10. Soaked & drained poha - 1 cup
  11. 2 - Chopped green chillies
  12. Sprouted Moth beans - 1/2 Cup
  13. salt to taste
  14. Misal masala powder - 1 tbsp
  15. lime juice - 1 tbsp
  16. Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves
  17. For making Kat/Gravy :
  18. 1 onion - finely chopped
  19. Tomatoes - 2 (finely chopped)
  20. Dessicated coconut - 2 tsp
  21. Haldi/ Turmeric - 1 tsp
  22. Salt to taste
  23. Lalmirch powder/ Red chili powder - 2 tsp
  24. Goda masala - 2 tbsp
  25. Curry leaves - A few as per choice
  26. Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  27. To make homemade Sour cream:
  28. Hung curds - 1 & a 1/2 Cups
  29. A pinch of salt
  30. Vinegar - 1 tbsp
  31. Fresh Cream - 1/2 cup
  32. Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  33. 4 tbsp - processed cheese
  34. Farsan - a handful
  35. Taco shells - 6

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the sprouted moth with salt to 2 whistles. Keep aside. In a deep pan put oil. Add mustard seeds. When it starts spluttering, add curry leaves, red chili powder, haldi, & chopped onions. Saute for a while.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes, mashed potatoes, soaked poha, green chilies, sprouted & boiled moth beans, some salt, misal masala powder. Give a gentle mix.
  3. Before switching off the flame put lemon juice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  4. To make the Thick Kat/gravy: In a pan put oil. Add chopped onions. brown it on low to medium flame. Add desiccated coconut. Add chopped tomatoes.
  5. Put haldi, salt, lal mirch powder, Goda masala powder. Now add curry patta for flavour. Mix nicely. Add lemon juice. Gravy has to be made thick. If required add very less water.
  6. To make Sour cream: Take hung curds. Add fresh cream in to it. Whip it. Add a pinch of salt. Add lemon juice & vinegar. Mix nicely.
  7. Now Assemble: Take taco shells in a plate. Fill in with misal. Layer it with kat/thick gravy. Top it with sour cream. Now add farsan. Put grated cheese on it. Again put some more farsan.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves & some more sour cream.
