Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Peel of 2-3 oranges
  2. Pulp from a lemon sized ball of tamarind
  3. jaggery 2 tbsps
  4. chilly powder 1 tsp
  5. Rasam/sambar powder 1 tsp
  6. salt to taste
  7. oil for seasoning
  8. Kadipatta 5-8
  9. Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  10. Fenugreek seeds 4-5


  1. Chop the peels into small pieces
  2. Wash well and then boil with sufficient water and a little salt till soft. Keep aside.
  3. In a pan, heat the oil. To this, add the mustard and fenugreek seeds and allow to splutter.
  4. Add the curry leaves after tearing them and then the hing powder.
  5. Add some water, the tamarind pulp, the chilly and rasam powders and the jaggery. Let this come to a boil.
  6. Add the softened, cooked peel and salt. Let this continue to boil till a sauce consistency is reached.
  7. Serve with rotis, dosas or as an addition to curd rice etc.
