About Sevai Upma Recipe

Tangy tomato vermicelli that has been tempered in south indian spices.

सोचिये अगर आप घर पर सेवई उपमा । परोसेंगे तो सभी कितने अचंभित हो जाएंगे। यूं तो सभी सेवई उपमा । को रेस्टोरेंट में खाना पसंद करते हैं पर अगर यह घर पर बनी हो तो फिर इसकी बात ही कुछ और होती है। सेवई उपमा । की ख़ास बात यह है की इसे बनाते वक़्त जो सुगंध आती है वह बहुत ही मनमोहक होती है और इसे देखने के बाद भूख और भी ज्यादा बढ़ जाती है। Anjana Chaturvedi की ये रेसिपी की तैयारी में कुछ मिनट का वक़्त लगता है और इसे अच्छी तरह से पकाने में 15 मिनट का वक़्त लगता है। अगर कभी मेहमान घर पे अचानक से आ जाये तो आप खाने में सेवई उपमा । बना सकते हैं और उन्हें खुश कर सकते हैं। बेटर बटर के सेवई उपमा । इन हिंदी में आपको इसे बनाने की विधि हिंदी में मिलेगी जिसकी सहायता से आप इसे बड़े ही आसानी से बना सकते हैं। तो जब भी आपको कुछ स्पेशल खाने या बनाने का मन करे तो सेवई उपमा । को ट्राई करना ना भूलें।

Sevai Upma

Ingredients to make Sevai Upma

  • Vermicelli /Sevai – 1 cup*
  • water - 1 cup
  • Green peas boiled – 3 tbsp
  • tomato chopped – 1
  • ginger chopped - 3/4 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • lemon juice – 1.5 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder – 3/4 tsp
  • For the Tadka :
  • Refined oil – 1 .5 tbsp
  • mustard seeds /rai – 1 tsp
  • Urad daal/White Lentils - 1 tsp
  • cashews/kaju broken – 1 tsp (optional)
  • curry leaves – 6
  • Chopped green chili – 2

How to make Sevai Upma

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad daal/white lentil, cashews & saute on medium heat.
  2. As soon as the mustard starts crackling, add chopped green chili & vermicelli immediately. Saute on low heat.
  3. Add in the curry leaves, boiled peas and stir fry for a few seconds. Add salt, turmeric, chili powder, chopped tomatoes, ginger and mix.
  4. Pour in a cup of water, cover with a lid and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. Add the lemon juice & fresh coriander and mix gently.
  5. Switch off the flame and cover the pan and let it rest for a few minutes, so it absorbs the flavors and the extra water (if any).
  6. Open the lid and fluff gently with a fork. Serve hot.

My Tip:

I prefer to use Bambino semolina vermicelli to make this upma. You can use any combination of boiled vegetables to make this i.e potato, beans, cauliflower, carrot etc and add them at step 2 before adding vermicelli. The ratio of vermicelli and water is 1:1, but it may depend on the quality and type of vermicelli used.
